Warnings and Safety Notes
- Laser radiation hazard – This engraver emits powerful visible blue laser radiation (445nm) that can cause permanent eye damage and severe skin burns. ALWAYS wear the included certified laser safety glasses for 445nm wavelength whenever the laser is active, even if the protective cover is closed.
- Install in a well-ventilated area – Laser cutting and engraving produce smoke, fumes, and particulate matter. Use an external exhaust fan or air purifier. NEVER cut or engrave PVC, vinyl, polycarbonate, ABS, or materials containing chlorine – these release toxic and corrosive gases that can permanently damage the machine and are hazardous to health.
- Never leave unattended – Diode lasers can ignite materials. STAY with the machine during operation. Keep a properly rated fire extinguisher (Class ABC or Class BC) within arm’s reach at all times.
- Flame detector is a safety aid, not a guarantee – While the TS2 includes a flame detector that triggers automatic power-off, do not rely on it as your only fire safety measure. Always maintain visual line-of-sight to the work area.
- Emergency stop button location – Familiarize yourself with the red emergency stop button’s location before starting any job. In case of fire or unexpected behavior, press it immediately. To restart after emergency stop, rotate the switch clockwise.
- Tilt sensor – The laser head includes a gyroscope that automatically turns off the laser if the machine is tilted more than 15° (e.g., bumped, flipped, or dropped). This feature reduces but does not eliminate the need for careful machine placement on a stable, level surface.
- Material testing – Always test new materials on scrap pieces. Some materials (e.g., certain painted or coated metals, treated woods) may produce harmful fumes or be un-cuttable. Never engrave materials with unknown composition.
- Electrical safety – Do not operate with wet hands. Keep liquids away from the laser module, control board, power supply, and electrical connections. Unplug when not in use or during maintenance.
- Air assist requirement – For cutting thicker materials (especially wood and acrylic), use an external air assist pump. Air assist blows away smoke and debris, reduces flare-ups, and produces cleaner cut edges. The nozzle and tubing are included; the pump is not.
- Children and pets – Keep children and pets away from the machine during operation. The laser, moving parts, and potential smoke pose serious risks. Not a toy – adult supervision required at all times.
- Protective cover – Always keep the acrylic or metal protective cover closed during engraving/cutting. The cover provides significant laser-blocking protection but is not a substitute for safety glasses.
- First aid for eye exposure – If accidental eye exposure occurs, close eyes immediately, move away from the laser, and seek immediate medical evaluation. Do not rub eyes. Inform medical staff that exposure was from a 445nm blue laser.
- Grounding – Ensure the power outlet is properly grounded. Use a surge protector to protect the electronics from power spikes.
